COVIDE019 presents a curated selection of contemporary video art – 118 works analyzed through a COVID-19-contaminated lens and 19 new pieces by emerging artists – exploring themes of isolation, collectivity, and global crisis while fostering dialogue on the evolving post-pandemic artistic landscape
Art history has been shaped by major crises, and as the curators waited to see how post-COVID art practices would evolve both conceptually and aesthetically, they curated a list of videos – both old and recent – tied to the collective and universal emotions deeply felt around the world. Discover or rediscover artists and works to better understand the world, reinforce, or even shift some of your feelings and beliefs.
Curators:
Amanda Abi Khalil – Art curator, founder, and director of TAP (Temporary Art Platform), based between Beirut and many other places, including Rio de Janeiro. Her exhibition “A Casa é Sua”, planned to open in mid-April 2020 in Brazil, was postponed until further notice due to COVID-19.
Bianca Bernardo – Independent curator, teaching artist, and mother. Taking a break from overcooking during the COVID-19 quarantine.
Cherine Karam – Previous gallerist. Thought she was going on a backpacking trip in South America, but COVID-19 decided otherwise.
